Meet Paul Wood, DDS

Dr. Paul Wood is from the rural Vernon County in west-central Missouri. After graduating high school in 1978, he joined the US Army and spent the next 33 years in uniform. He served as an enlisted soldier, Field Artillery Officer, Military Intelligence Officer and National Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Wood obtained two bachelor’s degrees from Missouri Southern State University, one in Economics and one in Biology. He then attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry, graduating in 1991. During dental school, he served as Commander of Service Battery, 1/129 Field Artillery of the Missouri Army National Guard. After serving two years on active duty in Commission Corp of the US Public Health Service, he was selected to attend long term training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Wood was selected for the residency program at The Ohio State University. He completed residency and then was successful with both the written and oral portions of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. While serving as the National Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Commission Corp of the United States Public Health Service he served in many regions of the US and was repeatedly assigned to the Coast Guard. Dr. Wood was a faculty member at the Graduate Practice Residency Programs at W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and at the Navajo Area Medical Center in Gallup, New Mexico. Dr. Wood has been in the private sector of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since his retirement from active duty and enjoys his current position at Oklahoma Dental Implants and Oral Surgery in Lawton.

He is a member of the American Dental Association and served as the 117th President of the Oklahoma Dental Association in 2023-2024. He is also a member of the Texas Dental Association, Texas 13th District Dental Society, President of the Comanche County Dental Society, and Stephen’s County Dental Society.

He is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support.

Dr. Wood volunteers his time once a month to Hearts that Care, a nonprofit organization that gives free dental care to those in need. He has also taught Medical Emergencies in the Dental office to local dentists and served as a University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Associate Professor while volunteering at Good Shepherd Ministries in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Wood enjoys spending time with his wife, Heidi, children, and grandchildren. Both of his children are dentists, and his son is currently in an Oral Surgery residency with the United States Air Force. His hobbies include flying taildragger airplanes, welding, and collecting old International Harvester trucks.
