Anesthesia Options Available

As we mentioned, our surgeons provide IV sedation in the office to make your experience comfortable and pain-free:

  • Local Anesthesia – This type of sedation dentistry is most often used in simple procedures such as single tooth extractions. Local anesthetic is injected directly into the gums near the site of the procedure to numb the area. While patients will experience a sensation of pressure, this method of anesthesia prevents patients from feeling pain during their procedure.
  • Nitrous Oxide with Local Anesthetic – This method of sedation dentistry combines nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) with local anesthetic and is used in procedures that require slightly more involvement, such as multiple extractions or oral pathology appointments. Nitrous oxide is used to calm the nerves and help patients relax during their procedure. Once the nitrous oxide has taken effect, local anesthetic will be injected to numb the area near the procedure site.
  • IV Sedation – This type of anesthesia is used for more involved dental procedures, such as wisdom teeth removal and dental implant placement. Before starting the procedure, our doctors will insert an IV directly into the arm or hand of the patient in order to administer medicines. When patients wake up from the effects of IV sedation, they will feel like just minutes have passed since they came in for surgery.
  • General Anesthesia – At our state-of-the-art facility, our doctors are fully equipped to provide patients with general anesthesia during major oral or facial surgery. Like IV sedation, general anesthesia is administered through an IV in the arm or hand. The difference is the type of medication that is used. General anesthesia causes patients to be completely asleep during their procedure.
